Intro Baha'i

The Book of Fatimih Unsealed

This course introduces students to Baha'u'llah's three "immortal works" from the Baghdad period (1853-1863) — the *Kitab-i-Iqan* (Book of Certitude), the *Hidden Words*, and the *Seven Valleys* — and uses them to explore the Baha'i theory of revelation, the practices of spiritual life, and the soul's journey toward God. The Iqan provides the theological framework: What is a Manifestation of God? Why is truth so difficult to approach? How is the Word of God like a City renewed and re-adorned every thousand years? The Hidden Words distill the essence of all divine revelation into 153 intimate utterances — God speaking directly to the human soul about love, devotion, justice, and purpose. The Seven Valleys map the mystical journey of the seeker through seven stages of transformation. Together, these three works introduce the four pillars of Baha'i spiritual life: **prayer, meditation, study, and spiritual action**. Students encounter all three texts firsthand and leave equipped to read them in full in Ocean Library.
